Ellen DeGeneres Show Probe Could End Her Career, Warns PR Expert

Yesterday, we reported that an official investigation had been launched by WarnerMedia into “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” after reports surfaced of a “toxic work environment” on the set. Now, a prominent PR expert is weighing in on the impact this probe will likely have on Ellen DeGeneres’ career. And it’s not looking good for the daytime host and comedienne!

Ellen’s reputation has faced increased scrutiny these past few months. One by one, her skeletons started to find their way out of the metaphorical closet. But no one was prepared for a formal investigation.

WarnerMedia Investigation Into ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’

WarnerMedia launched its official investigation into “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” after the release of a Buzzfeed News article came out.

The article lays out complaints by ten former and one current Ellen show staffer. Together, they assert that the atmosphere of the daytime talk show behind the scenes is one of racism, fear, and intimidation.

These accusations look very bad for “The Ellen DeGeneres Show”. Especially given the fact its Emmy-winning host tells her audience to “be kind” to one another at the end of every show.

Investigation Findings Could Be ‘Damning’ For Ellen DeGeneres

Eric Schiffer is a best-selling author and chairman of Reputation Management Consultants.

He told Fox News that because Ellen DeGeneres’ brand is all about kindness, her career may suffer “deadly consequences” depending on the outcome of WarnerMedia’s investigation.

Schiffer said: 

“She could be perpetrating one of the biggest frauds in American celebrity history. There are now serious investigators looking into the allegations and if the findings are as damning as what has been reported then you could watch the ‘Ellen Show’ go boom.”

He also added that he was not surprised at all when news of the probe broke. At this point, Schiffer felt there were simply “too many assertions that are credible”.

Schiffer added that “if the leadership team at WarnerMedia didn’t [act], they would feel the wrath of the public.” Sounds like he’s well versed in current cancel culture.

Even someone as beloved as Ellen might not be safe from their wrath.

Staying Silent Didn’t Help Her Cause

One thing that Schiffer believes hurt DeGeneres is her silence on these reports. And, of course, the sheer number of allegations citing her negative behavior that have come out this year.

“I think Ellen has been arrogant in her entire approach in dealing with the allegations and it’s crazy for her not to accept responsibility for what is happening under her leadership. In Hollywood, the buck stops at the star’s name on the door, not at the producer level. It would be impossible for her to not know what [was] happening within her own staff.”

The show’s executive producers Ed Glavin, Andy Lassner, and Mary Connelly tried to take responsibility for the environment on set.

The trio released a statement that appeared to try to absolve Ellen of any blame:

“We are truly heartbroken and sorry to learn that even one person in our production family has had a negative experience. It’s not who we are and not who we strive to be, and not the mission Ellen has set for us.

For the record, the day to day responsibility of the Ellen show is completely on us. We take all of this very seriously and we realize, as many in the world are learning, that we need to do better, are committed to do better, and we will do better.”

Schiffer, however, does not think the producers’ join statement will help Ellen in any way.

Instead, he called it “a dangerous period in her career at a critical time in the American experience.”

Eric Schiffer concluded with some strong words.

The PR expert says that if WarnerMedia’s investigation turns up evidence of a toxic work environment, we should expect “an apocalyptic ending to her TV career.”

Perhaps Ellen DeGeneres should have focused more on following her “be kind” mantra herself.
