Jon Jones Continues to Blast UFC, Accuses Promotion of “Ripping” Him Off

If you’ve been expecting tensions between Jon Jones and the UFC to ratchet down, since “Bones” has been blasting the promotion publicly for several days, well, think again.

Jones lights up the UFC in new series of tweets

After Jones made it clear he wasn’t happy about the UFC’s offer for a fight with Francis Ngannou, for a little while, it looked like “Bones” was going to return his focus to defending his light-heavyweight title. But, the detente didn’t last, and Jones proceeded to claim he’s vacating the light-heavyweight crown.

Well, although Dana White said he’d “figure it out” with the star, it’s clear that nothing on that front has happened. Case in point, recently Jones tweeted out these comments about his history with the UFC.

“When I was in my prime, the UFC’s way of not paying me was telling me I wasn’t a star. Had me grateful for a new car meanwhile making tens of millions without my knowing.

“(UFC) impressed a young kid with a Bentley to fight Lyoto Machida while they collected millions.”

“I’m not even asking for backpay for ripping me off throughout my entire 20’s, just (want) to be treated fair moving forward.

Advice (to) you young fighters: If you’re hot right now, get paid. As much as the UFC is building your brand, you are building (theirs). If you think your biggest paydays will come after being with the company for a while, you are wrong.”

“I fought mega fight after mega fight throughout my early 20s for under 2 million a fight. Who knows what I’m actually owed, makes me feel like a fool even thinking about it.”

“Advice while you Young fighters, if you’re hot right now. Get paid. As much as the Ufc is building your brand, you are building their’s.

If you think your biggest paydays will come after being with the company for a while. You are wrong.”

What’s going to happen from here?

So, that’s the big question: what’s next for Jones and the UFC? Obviously the promotion isn’t going to release Jones from his contract, as we’re talking about one of the greatest, if not the greatest fighter in history.

You would think, considering the stakes involved, that the parties will come together and reach some sort of agreement.

But, since Jorge Masvidal has also been scrutinizing how much the UFC pays its fighters, in terms of its overall revenue share, we could be in for an extended battle. Especially if other fighters who aren’t happy with the status-quo raise their voices as well.
