Mike Rowe Schools NY Governor Andrew Cuomo For His Weak Argument On ‘Drastic’ Lockdown Measures

Former “Dirty Jobs” host Mike Rowe just took Democratic leaders to task over his frustrations with their handling of coronavirus lockdowns in the United States. Rowe took specific issue with New York’s Democratic Governor Andrew Cuomo, who recently argued that any lockdown measure is justified if it saves even one life from COVID-19. As always, Mike Rowe’s foremost concern is the American worker.

Mike Rowe Schools New York Governor Andrew Cuomo

Rowe appeared on on Fox News’ “The Daily Briefing” Tuesday to discuss the debate between those who want to reopen the country and those who wish to leave it in lockdown.

During his appearance, Rowe referenced Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s infamous “essential worker” comment. When an ABC reporter inquired on behalf of out-of-work protesters, Cuomo replied:

“By the way, if you want to go to work, take a job as an essential worker.”

Clearly a man of the people concerned about the welfare of his citizens.

In contrast, Rowe insists that Americans – especially politicians – need to “think differently” about this concept of a “nonessential” worker. Is any American worker truly nonessential?

Mike Rowe says no.

“If you look at the impact of removing those workers from our economy, our macroeconomy, you can see they’re absolutely essential. Language always matters,” he said, according to The Daily Caller

Rowe then shifted to attacking another comment made by Cuomo.

“Well, not to pile up on the governor, but a couple of weeks ago he said another thing that really snapped my neck,” Rowe recounted. “He said, ‘No measure no matter how drastic or draconian should be deemed unjustified if it saves a single life.’”

“Safety obviously is very, very, very important, but the notion that nothing in the country is more important than staying safe, that’s not something commonsensical people embrace,” he added.

“That’s something you hear from people who are trying to sell you something, or politicians who are trying to get reelected. We have to get away from the cookie-cutter bromides and platitudes and start dealing with one zip code at a time.”

Don’t Treat Us Like Children

This came days after Rowe sat down with The Blaze host Glenn Beck to lament the fact that we are essentially being treated like children by government officials, who appear to be relishing the power to dictate how we live our lives:

“There are times … where safety first is wise and prudent. You don’t drive 55 when there’s an ice storm. You adjust, you re-calibrate, you take the temperature of the room and you adjust your behavior. It’s called homeostatic risk, risk equilibrium. We’re all hard-wired to adapt and adjust our behavior to the circumstances around us.

There are times when putting safety above all things makes absolute sense, but there has never been a time where arbitraging everything else out of the equation, and venerating safety to the point that nothing else is even allowed to be discussed, there’s never been a point in our history, at least as I understand it, where that’s made a lick of sense.

I think most of the country is going to come through this with the realization that we’re being treated like children and we’re being fed platitudes, bromides, and bowls of warm milk by people who want us to look at them as parents.”

Mike Rowe Hit The Nail On The Head

No wonder hard-working, patriotic Americans everywhere love Mike Rowe. He clearly has a better head on his shoulders than the vast majority of our leaders in office!

Democratic leaders in particular seem to be having way too much fun wielding their power amid this pandemic. Touting the power they have over the lives of working Americans.

And the madness needs to end.

Americans must to be mindful of coronavirus. But we also need to get back to work.

James Conrad’s passion for politics is only overshadowed by his longstanding interest in Hollywood. His unique perspective as a gay conservative fuels him to challenge celebrity views and those who think they have a right to tell anyone how to think or vote. James proudly wields his minority point of view to combat identity politics and cut through his typecast. Fun fact: James’ guilty pleasure is the British royal family.
