Reigning UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones wants to make a couple things perfectly clear.
First, he is not “fighting” with the UFC over the public comments made by UFC president Dana White regarding a proposed fight with heavyweight Francis Ngannou.
No, it is just that he is “surprised” by the decisions made by the boss to take things public.
“If you’re wondering I’m not fighting with UFC,” Jones posted on Twitter. “I’m not mad at Dana or beefing. Just surprised he went that route. I said my piece, I’m over it.”
Jones recently acknowledged that he was interested in a super-fight with Ngannou, a top contender in the heavyweight division. However, White claimed in an interview that “Bones” asked for an absurd amount of money to make the fight happen.
With the UFC just now getting back to action following the coronavirus pandemic, White said that was not possible.
“You already let me down a bit by shutting down this Francis mega fight, don’t add salt to the wound by telling the fans something that’s not the truth,” Jones wrote.
“I’m not going to give up hope the way I’m taking this whole thing is UFC don’t want to budget the Jon Jones heavyweight move up right now,” he added. “They should’ve just said that, lying on me and saying I asked for too much it’s just unfair. That was unnecessary.”
