Khabib

Recently Dana White repeated that the UFC will find a way to host UFC 249 next month, despite the coronavirus, and that they could move the card outside the United States as a means to do so. Well, according to Khabib Nurmagomedov’s father, Abdulmanap, the United Arab Emirates is a top candidate to host the event.

Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov makes cases for UAE

Due to restrictions on public gatherings and travel, as a result of the coronavirus, the UFC finally, announced this past week that it is postponing its March 21st, 28th and April 11th cards. But, White has also insisted that the promotion will find a way to hold the April 18th, UFC 249 card, which is supposed to feature the highly anticipated bout between Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson. According to White, the UFC will “probably” hold the event outside of the U.S.

Well, recently Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov spoke with RBC Sports, and he made the case for the UAE as the card’s new location.

“Most likely it will be Dubai. Firstly, it’s easier to fight diseases because of the heat. And I think the Emirates will pay for the UFC fight faster and easier, ”said Nurmagomedov.

“Abu Dhabi may well be, but then, as Dana White agrees. I can’t approve, but there are more chances there.”

It’s an interesting idea. But, it is worth noting that the coronavirus is also in the UAE and as this is being written, there are over 100 reported cases. So, it’s possible that travel bans to the region could be imposed moving forward as well. As it stands right now, as more stringent restrictions are being enacted, it’s just difficult to count on any UFC bout taking place in the next month or even more.

Khabib is doing “great”

And how is the lightweight champ’s preparation for UFC 249 going? Despite all the uncertainty and issues tied to the coronavirus? Khabib’s father was quoted saying this:

“Kabib feels great, everything is going according to plan. He is not afraid of the coronavirus, we are all mortals. What about empty stands? I think that the audience is good, and even better without them.”

By all indications, both Khabib and Ferguson are still focused on throwing down next month. The big question is, however, will we see this fight get postponed for the fifth time? Despite White’s proclamations that the bout will happen?

UFC 249 was scheduled to take place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. But, large public gatherings have been temporarily banned in the state.
