Goldberg speak out about controversial win

During WWE Super ShowDown, Goldberg defeated The Fiend for The WWE Universal Championship. This came as a big surprise to many WWE fans. As you can expect, Goldberg received plenty of backlash after the win. Now, he has spoken out about the matter.

Goldberg Reacts To The Backlash During The Bump

Goldberg speaks out about controversial win

Goldberg responded to the backlash from fans during an episode of The Bump. He had a lot of things to say, but this is the statement that stood out for us most.

“I’d love to see them do it, at any age, let alone at 53.”

He also stated that when he gets a challenge, he takes it. The WWE legend also mentioned that he is looking forward to his next title defence. And why shouldn’t he? Here is my take on the matter.

Undeserved Backlash?

Goldberg speaks out about controversial win about WWE super showdown

I am one of the few people that didn’t understand all the backlash from WWE Super ShowDown. I actually enjoyed the surprise win, and it gives Bray Wyatt something different to do.

The only point of criticism I do have is Roman Reigns as the next challenger. Nothing against Roman Reigns, but I would have preferred him facing Corbin again. There is so much young talent  that could have taken on the challenge instead, but that’s the decision the WWE made.

The Changing Landscape Of Wrestling

During his appearance on The Bump, Goldberg discussed the changing landscape of wrestling. While he was an active wrestler, social media didn’t play such a huge part in wrestling. Now, social media takes over the entire business.

“I think at the end of the day, people are more concerned with being that guy who started that negative chant. It’s not enough to be part of the show anymore. They want it to be their show, and that ain’t the case.”

I agree with Goldberg that there is lots of negativity on social media these days. He’s also at the receiving end at this point, so you can understand his reaction. On the other hand, fans had big reasons to complain over the past couple of years.

When Brock Lesnar became the Universal Champion and barely appeared on programming, it is normal that fans reacted the way they did, including myself. A champion should be featured on television, and all it did was make the championship mean nothing. That being said, it seems that the negativity has now overtaken good programming as well and that’s a shame.

The Spear Finisher

Goldberg also discussed his spear during The Bump. Since Roman Reigns also uses this finisher, Goldberg was all too eager to point out the difference between the finishers.

“I don’t spear to make contact. I spear to drive through people,” Goldberg informed. “Reigns is a little bit more theatrical, and mine is about delivering pain.”

We love Goldberg here at Ringside Intel and we wish him lots of luck with his title defence. We are looking forward to seeing him face Roman Reigns on the Grandest Stage of Them All.
