Conor McGregor

If UFC president Dana White has his way, Conor McGregor will wait patiently on the sidelines for his next bout.

But White isn’t sure McGregor wants to follow that plan of attack.

In an interview with TMZ Sports, White reiterated plans for McGregor to face Khabib Nurmagomedov should the reigning UFC lightweight champion defeat Tony Ferguson in April. However, “Notorious” appears as if he wants to fight sooner than later.

“Khabib if he wins,” White said. “But I don’t know if Conor wants to wait for him. We’ll see what happens. Conor might not wait.”

McGregor returned to action in January and finished Donald Cerrone, getting back on track after his 2018 loss to Nurmagomedov. He stated his plans for this year included remaining active, but at what cost?

Reports of a potential McGregor vs. Justin Gaethje match have surfaced, but neither side has confirmed talks are in place. White’s comment, though, makes it seem as if there have been at least initial discussions about such a bout.

“Conor McGregor does not hand-pick his opponents,” White said. “Conor has fought anybody that we have asked him to fight and who has been available. I mean guys have pulled out on Conor two or three times.

“Conor literally went to the gym and said, ‘Tell me who I am fight.'”
