If you thought UFC President Dana White was going to give Deiveson Figueiredo a pass for missing weight for today’s title fight at UFC Norfolk, think again.

White blasts Deiveson Figueiredo

Figueiredo is booked to fight Joseph Benavidez today for the soon to be, vacant flyweight title. Henry Cejudo is relinquishing the belt to focus on his bantamweight belt. But, since Figueiredo came in at 127.5 pounds on Friday for the bout, he’s ineligible to win the flyweight crown.

Well, since then, the UFC shared out a video of White breaking down today’s card. In it, the UFC President had this to say about Figueiredo coming in heavy (quotes via MMA Mania):

“Let’s start with the main event, Joseph Benavidez vs Deiveson. For those of you who don’t know, Deiveson did not make weight,” said White. “Insane! Unprofessional! How do you show up for a title fight and not make weight?

“What does this mean? It means that if Benavidez wins the fight, he is the new champion. If Deiveson wins the fight, the championship goes vacant.”

Now, Figueiredo’s manager has since come out and said that a medical issue was behind the contender missing weight. But, that’s probably not going to shut down all the criticism being sent the fighter’s way.
