Brad Paisley

Country superstar Brad Paisley entertained fans stuck at home amid the pandemic by taking online requests recently. When someone asked him to perform the hymn “In The Garden,” the Brad Paisley teared up at the mention of the classic Christian song. Even more emotion poured through as he struggled to get through this hymn that he loves so dearly.

Brad Paisley’s Facebook Live

A number of musicians are hosting Facebook Lives as we are staying at home during the coronavirus pandemic. It’s helped lighten the load as we search for ways to fight boredom and maintaining a positive attitude.

One of them was none other than 3-time Grammy, 14-time ACM, 14-time CMA, and 2-time AMA winning artist Brad Paisley. The “Whiskey Lullaby” singer Brad Paisley surprised fans last Thursday by popping up on Facebook and Instagram live.

The country legend performed the impromptu, request-only concert from his living room and even attracted some special guests. The hour-long live session featured special remote appearances by Carrie Underwood, Tim McGraw, and more.

One fan requested “In The Garden”, a hymn that is near and dear to Paisley.

This request truly touched Paisley and it certainly showed. He said it is one of his favorite gospel songs. In fact, the Grand Ole Opry member likes it so much that he included the hymn on his first album.

You can certainly feel the depth of Brad Paisley’s emotion as he struggles through “In The Garden” while the world around us is in crisis.

We are living in a time of great concern. Not only with the health of those we love, but also of our economy that was roaring along just a handful of days ago. Now, there is much uncertainty.

But, that uncertainty can be battled with hope and faith. Paisley understands that and it is why he became so emotional during this Facebook Live performance.

“In The Garden”

This 1912 hymn written by C. Austin Miles is based on chapter 20 of the book of John which details Mary coming into the garden to visit the tomb of Jesus. Her heart sank that He wasn’t there but things quickly turned when she recognized him standing nearby.

Miles imagined he was with Mary and Jesus as he wrote this hymn that has been recorded by numerous musicians.

I come to the garden alone,
While the dew is still on the roses;
And the voice I hear, falling on my ear,
The Son of God discloses.

Refrain: And He walks with me, and He talks with me,
And He tells me I am His own,
And the joy we share as we tarry there,
None other has ever known.

He speaks, and the sound of His voice
Is so sweet the birds hush their singing;
And the melody that He gave to me
Within my heart is ringing.

I’d stay in the garden with Him
Tho’ the night around me be falling;
But He bids me go; thro’ the voice of woe,
His voice to me is calling.

Brad Paisley has performed “In The Garden” many times, it happens to be one of his favorites. Still today, the sorrowful hymn still stirs up a lot of feelings.

You can watch him sing it with Steve Wariner at the Grand Ole Opry in the classic video below.
