Andy Ruiz Jr. has had a pretty impressive, boxing career to date, and his pugilistic skills were pretty evident even before he turnd pro, when he sparred former UFC champ, Andrei Arlovski.

Even if you only follow boxing casually, you’re likely more than aware of who Andy Ruiz Jr., as the heavyweight’s not long removed from one of the biggest upsets in boxing history, when he took out Anthony Joshua last June.

Well, more recently, Ruiz Jr. shared out footage of him sparring Andre Arlovski, and tagging the former UFC champ with a big right. Not interesting enough for you? Ruiz Jr. says he was just 16 when the footage was recorded…

Recently the former unified heavyweight champ shared out the footage below, which features a teenage Ruiz Jr. giving Arlovski a run for his money in the boxing ring.

I was 16 years old when I had the honor to spar with UFC Heavyweight Champion @andreiarlovski . Super tough guy lived up to his name The Pitbull. I did manage to give him some trouble tho.😂Thanks champ! So many great memories at the wildcard boxing club where Freddie Roach sharpened my skills as a boxer. Sorry for the vid quality it’s throwback.

Fast forward to today, and the 30-year-old Ruiz Jr. (33-2) is coming off a decision loss to Joshua in December. The fighter has called for a rubber match, but it remains to be seen if he’ll get his wish.

Arlovski’s next bout

Arlovski (28-19), who is now 41, is booked to fight Philipe Lins at UFC Oklahoma City on  May 2. “The Pitbull” is looking to get back on track, following a quick, stoppage loss to Jairzinho Rozenstruik in November.
