Jon Jones: ‘I Believe With My Whole Heart I Won That Fight’

Jon Jones didn’t see any issues with the final decision at UFC 247.

And why would he? Jones was declared the winner.

The reigning UFC light heavyweight champion earned a decision victory over top contender Dominick Reyes Saturday night. And unlike most Jones fights, this one was widely questioned by the masses.

“That fifth round won me the fight,” Jones said. “Those takedowns won me the fight. I believe with my whole heart I won that fight.”

For the 14th time in a championship match, Jones had his hand raised. That set a new record for the UFC, breaking the mark he previously held with Georges St-Pierre.

After looking unstoppable in wins over the likes of Alexander Gustafsson, Daniel Cormier and others, Jones has had a pair of tight decisions in his last two bouts. He scored a split decision vs. Thiago Santos last year at UFC 239.

Nevertheless, just as he has done all but once in his career, Jones was declared the winner.

Cormier, one of Jones’ biggest rivals in the sport, said it was “not a robbery” that he won.

“Close fight, could have gone either way,” Cormier wrote on Twitter. “3-1 or 2-2 going into the 5th. I thought 3-2 Reyes but the fight was so close it could have gone either way.”
