Curtis Blaydes has recorded several, noteworthy wins during his UFC run to date. But, by far, the most memorable and emphatic was his 2018 victory over legendary heavyweight, Alistair Overeem. Well, ahead of Blaydes’ scrap tonight with Junior dos Santos at UFC Raleigh, you can relive the gory win (yes: warning, graphic video to follow).
Blaydes brutalizes Overeem
The now 28-year-old Blaydes was booked to fight Overeem at UFC 225 in June, 2018, after defeating another storied heavyweight, Mark Hunt, earlier that year. At the time, the powerful wrestler had gone undefeated in six-straight bouts.
Well, as you can see by watching the video below, Blaydes finished Overeem with a wince-inducing, series of elbows in round two.
Following that win, Blaydes came up short against Francis Ngannou for a second time and was stopped in less than 60 seconds. Since that loss, which went down in November, 2018, Blaydes has rebounded with wins over Justin Willis and Shamil Abdurakhimov. So, if he can defeat JDS today, Blaydes will be back in the title shot mix.
