It was clear at UFC 246 that Maycee Barber had incurred a serious knee injury during her loss to Roxanne Modafferi. But now it’s been confirmed the flyweight prospect will be sidelined for months, due to the extent of her injury.

Barber has incurred a full ACL tear

At one juncture during Barber’s decision loss to Modafferi, the doctor could be heard saying the flyweight had incurred a partially torn ACL. Since then, however, Barber’s father Bucky has confirmed to ESPN that the 21 year-old completely tore her ACL in the fight.

“We think she injured it in the first 10 seconds,” Bucky Barber said. “She stepped on Roxanne’s foot as she backed up and felt a pop. You can see the knee give out on the side. She went back and started fighting and trying to do things and I noticed she was flat in a way I’ve never seen before.”

The fighter’s father also reported that Barber will undergo surgery soon. As a result of the injury and surgery, Barber will likely be sidelined for nine months.

Barber’s run to date

So, hopefully Barber has a speedy and full recovery from this. Prior to UFC 246, Barber had gone 8-0 and she had won three official UFC bouts to become one of the company’s top prospects.

In Barber’s previous bout, against Gillian Robertson in October, she scored a first round, stoppage win.
