While accepting her award as Billboard’s Woman of the Decade last night, pop star Taylor Swift went on a bizarre rant against music industry manager Scooter Braun that has since left the world speechless. In a twist that nobody saw coming, Taylor Swift claimed that Braun used funding from the family of liberal billionaire George Soros to purchase her music.
In her speech, Swift blasted the “unregulated world of private equity coming in and buying our music as if it’s real estate — as if it’s an app or a shoe line.”
This came after Braun bought the independent record label Big Machine, which gave him the master rights to Swift’s first six albums. Something that the singer and her fans have taken great issue with.
“This just happened to me without my approval, consultation or consent,” Swift said during her speech, according to The Daily Caller. “After I was denied the chance to purchase my music outright, my entire catalog was sold to Scooter Braun’s Ithaca Holdings in a deal that I’m told was funded by the Soros family, 23 Capital and that Carlyle Group.”

“Yet, to this day, none of these investors have bothered to contact me or my team directly — to perform their due diligence on their investment,” she added. “On their investment in me. To ask how I might feel about the new owner of my art, the music I wrote, the videos I created, photos of me, my handwriting, my album designs.”
Not stopping there, Swift went on to slam “toxic male privilege.”
“And of course, Scooter never contacted me or my team to discuss it prior to the sale or even when it was announced,” the notoriously liberal singer said. “I’m fairly certain he knew exactly how I would feel about it, though, and let me just say that the definition of toxic male privilege in our industry is people saying ‘but he’s always been nice to me’ when I’m raising valid concerns about artists and their right to own their music. And of course he’s nice to you—if you’re in this room, you have something he needs.”

Swift has been publicly bashing Braun ever since the sale went through, and after her initial attacks, he responded with a public letter on Instagram.
“Since your public statement last week there have been numerous death threats directed at my family,” Braun wrote. “I assume this was not your intention but it is important that you understand that your words carry a tremendous amount of weight and that your message can be interpreted by some in different ways.”
“Moving forward I would like to find a resolution,” he added. “I will make myself available whenever works for you. Many have told me that a meeting will never happen as this is not about truth or resolution but instead a narrative for you. I am hopeful that is not the case. I’m right here, ready to speak directly and respectfully.”
It certainly seems like this is more about a victim-narrative for Swift than actually getting her music back. It should be noted that Swift is worth over $360 million, so she’s far from the helpless victim of “toxic male privilege” that she claims to be.
The most shocking part of Taylor Swift’s speech is that she decided to go after Soros. Who is arguably one of the most powerful people in the world of Democratic politics.
Over the past year, Swift has repeatedly expressed her devotion to liberal politics, so it’s surprising that she would go after a leftwing billionaire who has funded countless high-profile Democratic political campaigns.
While it would be nice to interpret Swift’s dig at Soros as her having second thoughts about her radical leftwing politics, we doubt that’s what’s going on here at all.
Instead, it’s much more likely that Swift is so focused on her own victim narrative that she doesn’t realize that she’s just gone after one of the most powerful Democrats on Earth.
When Taylor Swift looks at George Soros, she just sees another wealthy, older, white male that she can vilify publicly to push the narrative that she is being oppressed by the patriarchy.
