Frankie Edgar

Recently Brian Ortega announced that he’s been forced out of a bout with Chan Sung Jung later this month, and now it’s being reported that Frankie Edgar has agreed to fight “The Korean Zombie”.

Edgar has reportedly agreed to step up

Not long ago, Ortega confirmed that he’s incurred a knee injury and that he’ll be unable to fight Jung at UFC Busan, December 21st. Well, since then, ESPN’s Ariel Helwani reported that Edgar was the front runner to face Jung.

A follow up statement from the UFC relayed the following (statement via MMA Fighting):

“Due to a knee injury, Brian Ortega has been forced to withdraw from his December 21 bout with “The Korean Zombie,” Chan Sung Jung. Stepping in for Ortega in the UFC Fight Night main event in Busan, South Korea, is former world champion Frankie Edgar.”

So what about Edgar’s booked, bantamweight debut?

As you likely know, Edgar was booked to make his bantamweight debut against Cory Sandhagen, January 25th. According to the aforementioned report from MMA Fighting, sources say Edgar will see where he’s at after fighting Jung. So, he could still fight Sandhagen next month. Can the legend emerge from a battle with “The Korean Zombie” unscathed and fight again one month later?

At UFC Busan, Jung (15-5) will be fighting for the first time since June, when he took out Renato “Moicano”.

Edgar (23-7-1) is coming off a decision loss to featherweight champ Max Holloway in July.
