Jorge Masvidal

It remains to be seen if Jorge Masvidal and Colby Covington end up fighting in the Octagon. But if that can’t happen, Masvidal’s made it clear he’s open to finding another venue for a bout with Covington.

The Masvidal – Covington beef

For some time, Masvidal was one of Covington’s biggest, public supporters, and he continued to refer to him as a friend, despite the fighter’s controversial “Chaos” persona. But, after Covington referred to Masvidal as a “journeyman”, they’re friendship began to unravel. Covington claimed Masvidal was jealous of his success, while “Gamebred” alleged that Colby had ripped off one of their coaches. Masvidal also blasted Covington for his polarizing and controversial act.

Masvidal’s latest comments

Well, fast forward to today, and both men have massive fights ahead of them. Masvidal is set to face Nate Diaz tomorrow in the headliner of UFC 244, while Covington will challenge welterweight champ Kamaru Usman on December 14th.

But, one thing is clear, Masvidal hasn’t exactly simmered, in terms of his ill will for Covington. While talking to the media recently about his former friend, turned rival, the outspoken fighter said this (quotes via MMA Fighting):

”I (expletive) with him all the time,” Masvidal said. “I’m the type of guy if you say something right now, whenever I see you, I’m going to hold you to that. It’s just who I’ve been since I was a kid until right now.

”At any given moment, if I see my bully, the guy who’s trying to conquer me, we’re going to find out. And if we could fight every time we came across each other, we would. He knows it. That’s why he runs away from me.”

”I go where he eats and wait for him,” Masvidal said. “He doesn’t eat at these places no more, because I’m going there to eat, and this little b*tch is nowhere to be seen. These are places that he constantly used to eat at. He knows that I know, so I’ve been at these places, just wanting to have a talk with him, man to man.

”I heard he’s only doing Uber Eats. Not like I’m going to assault him or nothing. That’s not me. I just want to talk to him man to man.”

So, ya. Even if we don’t see Masvidal and Covington fight in the cage at some point, it certainly sounds like there’s more news/drama to come right?

If Masvidal beats Diaz tomorrow night though, and Covington takes the welterweight title from Usman, it’s hard to imagine the UFC not rolling with this match-up.
