Khabib Nurmagomedov

The UFC continues to book bouts for its 2020 schedule, and now it’s being reported that the promotion’s nearly finalized a doozy of a fight: Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Tony Ferguson.

Championship fight is nearly set for Brooklyn

Recently Nurmagomedov relayed that a fight between him and Ferguson was targeted for April card in Brooklyn. Now, ESPN is reporting that Dana White’s confirmed the promotion is planning to have the championship fight take place on April 18th, at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

The report states that Nurmagomedov has already signed the bout agreement, but that Ferguson’s camp is still negotiating.

In the report, the lightweight champ’s manager, Ali Abdelaziz said this:

“Fifth time is the charm,” Abdelaziz said. “Tony has been asking for this ass-whipping for a long time, and he deserves it. He’s earned it. Khabib wanted this fight, Tony wanted it, the UFC wanted it and the fans wanted it. This fight is for the fans.”

Abdelaziz is referring to the fact that Nurmagomedov – Ferguson fights have been axed four times now, due to medical issues or injuries.

Abdelaziz posts Khabib’s signed bout agreement

In addition to his comments above, Abdelaziz also posted the image and comments below.

So, hopefully this fight gets signed, and actually happens. After all, on paper, it is unquestionably one of the greatest lightweight fights to take place in the sport. In Nurmagomedov (28-0) you have a champion who has never lost, and who has dominated most of his opponents with his galaxy-class wrestling and grappling.

In Ferguson (25-3), you have one of the most dangerous and dynamic fighters in the sport, who has won 12 straight fights.
