If you’re celebrating Thanksgiving this week and you’ve been hoping for word on a showdown between Conor McGregor and Donald Cerrone, well, the Holidays have just gotten that much better.

McGregor and Cerrone have agree to battle at UFC 246

Back in October, McGregor buzzed the MMA world by relaying that he was going to fight on January 18th, but the former champ declined to mention against who. Then it was reported Cerrone was the front runner, and that the UFC was indeed, targeting January 18th for the contest.

Well, since December is fast approaching, and because the UFC’s scheduled didn’t feature a pay-per-view card, the consensus seemed to be Cerrone – McGregor wasn’t going to happen in January. But, on Thurday, UFC President Dana White told ESPN that McGregor has signed to fight Cerrone on the aforementioned date and that “Cowboy” is also “ready to go”.

Somewhat interestingly, the fight will take place at welterweight it will also be a five round, main event. Could this signal that McGregor intends to fight at welterweight moving forward? Or, have they agreed to fight at 170 since the card is around six weeks out? Both men have competed at welterweight before, particularly Cerrone, and neither man is big for that weight class.

McGregor (21-4) hasn’t fought since last October when he was tapped out by reigning, lightweight king Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Cerrone (36-13) competed this past September and was taken out by top, lightweight contender Justin Gaethje in the opening round.
