Former champion Conor McGregor is all set to return to the UFC.
McGregor, who has held both the featherweight and lightweight belts, signed his contract for UFC 246. UFC president Dana White told ESPN that “Notorious” will meet Donald Cerrone on January 18 from Las Vegas and the T-Mobile Arena.
The bout has been rumored for several months, with both fighters showing plenty of interest in meeting each other.
McGregor has not competed since a 2018 loss to UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov. The Irish fighter also spent the early part of 2018 out of action, along with much of 2017 as he prepared to face Floyd Mayweather in a boxing match.
The last win for McGregor came in 2016 when he knocked out Eddie Alvarez to claim the lightweight title. The 31-year-old did not lose either of his belts, instead being stripped of them by the promotion.
“Conor has signed and Cowboy is ready to go,” Whtie said.
Cerrone, who has signed a new deal with the UFC according to the report, has dropped his last two bouts. He holds the UFc record for both most wins and most finishes, sitting at 36-13 overall.
Before moving up to welterweight, where the McGregor fight will take place, Cerrone competed for the UFC lightweight title.
