As the world changes, so does professional wrestling. The LGBTQ community is finding their place and (most) fans are starting to accept to these people.
For All Elite Wrestling (AEW), they have heavily featured transgender wrestler Nyla Rose. She won the Open Casino Battle Royal at All Out for a chance to become the inaugural AEW Women’s Champion. Rose did not leave with the title, but fans were still impressed by the performance inside the ring.
While speaking to Women’s Wrestling Weekly, Rose addressed those who still do not accept her preference of life. Everyone is entitled to live their best life and that goes for the LGBTQ community.
“You know, I’m definitely tired of it, but I get it. It’s new for a lot of people, it’s a very new thing, it’s a new world, it’s a new experience, I get it and it’s new for a lot of people. Especially a lot of cisgendered hetero normative people who don’t have to think about these sorts of things.”
“So, I definitely get it, but I guess if there’s anything I could say, it might go over some people’s heads, but it’s you know, first and foremost, being transgender is not a sexual orientation, that’s a gender identity, and sex and gender are two totally different things. Or sexuality and gender are two totally different things, I should say.”
“So, I think a lot, that’s where a lot of people get hung up on, because they’re so quick to lump transgender performers in with you know, lesbians, gay, bisexual performers, but, yes, LGBTQ community is one community, but these are two different things.”
“That being said, I’m no different than you guys, like truly, at the end of the day, I’m no different than you guys, I just want to go out there and perform. Hate me for the right reasons.”
It feels like the Women’s Revolution hit a minor snag in 2019. While there are still two moths left, we did not got a Mae Young Classic Tournament or another all female pay per view.
Although, WWE is giving the female superstars some extra spotlight. On December 5, the NXT live event from Florida will feature only female talent.
We do not have many details about the show at this time, like if it will air on the WWE Network. Since the show is exclusive to the NXT brand, it could mean no names from RAW or SmackDown appear.
On the plus side of things, the women of NXT will get to showcase their skills. The yellow and black brand has many female wrestlers, but usually only a few get TV time.
