Douglas Lima

Douglas Lima demonstrated again tonight at Bellator 232 that he’s one of the very best welterweights on the planet, as he outscored Rory MacDonald to reclaim the title and win the 170 grand prix.

Round one

Neither man came with too much offense in the opening two minutes, although Lima fired a few leg kicks. Lima pressed forward and right before the three-minute mark, MacDonald shot in, but the TD was defended. MacDonald pushed Lima to the fence and tried tripping the latter to the floor, but was unable to.  Some boos rang out before the first round concluded.

Round two

Lima pressed forward to begin round two. MacDonald continued to move around continually and Lima missed with a leg kick. Moments later, Lima landed a leg kick and MacDonald fired back a right. MacDonald shot in at the three-minute mark again, but Lima defended. Lima threatened with a right-hand moments later and he continued to move forward. With 30 seconds left, Lima fired in a couple of heavy shots that forced MacaDonald to backpedal. MacDonald threw a kick that missed right before the round ended.

Round three

MacDonald shot in early into round three but Lima defended the TD attempt again. MacDonald fired in a right hand moments later but ate a stiff jab in return. MacDonald shot in once again, but, once again, Lima remained on his feet. MacDonald secured double underhooks against the fence but Lima worked his way out. MacDonald picked up the pace with his strikes mid-round, but more boos rang out by the four-minute mark.  With 30 seconds left, MacDonald had another TD attempt denied, but he fired in some punches before the bell went.

Round four

MacDonald shot in moments into round four but Lima remained standing. Moments later, Lima landed a pounding leg kick that staggered MacDonald. The latter fired a front kick couple of minutes in and nearly scored a TD, but Lima popped back to his feet. MacDonald shot in from way out and Lima easily defended the shot. Lima winged a kick in return and the two clinched up against the cage. Eventually, the fighters returned to the center of the cage, and MacDonald pressed forward in the final seconds of the frame.

Round five

Lima planted a hard jab not long into round five, and then he did so again, moments later. MacDonald finally managed to take Lima down, but the latter wound up on top. MacDonald kept a high guard initially and then went for an armbar, but Lima slammed his way out. MacDonald started digging for a leg but Lima responded with some heavy punches from above. MacDonald scored a nice reversal with less than 60 seconds left and took the top position. MacDonald flurried from above before the final bell went.

Lima was announced as the winner via a unanimous decision victory, and as a result, he reclaimed the welterweight title and won a $1 million check for winning the 170 grand prix.
