WWE Is Giving Its Superstars More Time Off From Wrestling

Many WWE superstars are on the road for years at a time, with little time spent at home with their respective families. As there have been problems with burn-outs, depression, and addiction among the WWE talent, the company has decided to give its stars more vacation.

WWE Gives Time Off To Exhausted Superstars

According to PWInsider, almost every person who was on the tour to the Philippines, China, and Hawaii have received a couple of days off from the WWE. Evidently, these locations require a considerable amount of travel, which is exhausting on its own. Some superstars are getting a longer break, Finn Balor being the most prominent one at the moment.

Burn-Out, Depression, and Addictions

As mentioned in the introduction of this article, the company has had some problems with exhausted superstars in the past. Alicia Fox has been in the news because of a rumored alcohol addiction and even wrestled drunk if rumors are to be believed. Kurt Angle, Matt Hardy, and Jeff Hardy have also been quite open about their struggles, while Lars Sullivan had to take time off due to anxiety attacks.

While mental health problems cannot be avoided in a prominent company such as the WWE, the grueling travel and work schedule of the company certainly does not make things any easier. With some extra time off from wrestling, some of these problems could be avoided.

Roman Reigns Supports Off Season For Wrestlers

With the arrival of AEW, it is unlikely that the off-season for wrestlers will be implemented by the WWE. However, there are a number of wrestlers who support the idea of an off season for wrestling including one of the company’s biggest superstars Roman Reigns.

During an interview with TalkSport, Reigns mentions how an off season could be extremely beneficial. He stated that it could help superstars to recover from all the bumps in the ring. In fact, he hinted it could prevent long-term injuries.

”This formula has worked and Sports Entertainment is a ‘what have you done for me lately’ industry. Unfortunately, we don’t have an off-season like most sports or other kinds of forms of entertainment or competition.”

“It would definitely give our performers another couple of months if not a full quarter to rest and recover, not only just from a physical standpoint, but creatively.”

Off Season Beneficial For Fans?

Roman Reigns also mentioned how an off season could be beneficial for fans, too. Fans are showered with so much wrestling on a weekly basis. It makes sense that some time away from wrestling could get them more excited for the product again. It also gives the WWE time to work out new storylines. And, to get their product built in a proper manner instead of always bringing fast-paced storylines and fickle matches.

As stated earlier, an off season is unlikely to happen at this point. However, it is a good sign that the company is implementing more time off. If anything, it could prevent superstars from becoming burned out. And, it might prevent some serious mental health problems such as anxiety, depression, and addiction down the line. Still, a few days off is only a drop in the bucket.
