Tom Hanks New Mister Rogers Movie Promotes Power of Prayer

A new trailer reveals that the upcoming movie A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, which stars Tom Hanks, will highlight the strong Christian faith of the legendary children’s television personality Fred Rogers. It’s so refreshing to see yet another mainstream film positively tackle the concepts of faith, prayer, and our personal relationships with God. The new Misters Rogers movie is a must-see!

Film Portrays Mister Rogers’ Praying

“Do you know what that means, to forgive?” Hanks, who portrays Rogers in the film, can be seen asking in the latest trailer. “It’s a decision we make to release a person from the feelings of anger we have toward them.”

Christian Post reported that the movie is based on an article written by journalist Tom Junod, who formed a strong friendship with Rogers while profiling him. The movie reportedly tells the story about how their friendship developed over the years after meeting for the first time.

The latest trailer for the film shows Rogers saying that he once told a sick man “to pray for me. I figure anyone who is going through what he is going through must be awfully close to God.”

Mister Rogers Was A Proud Christian

Rogers spent more than thirty years working in television doing his show for children. The only breaks he took were times when he devoted himself to his Christian faith. Prior to going into television, Rogers attended the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, where he was ordained as a Presbyterian minister in 1963.

“When I think of Fred, I often think of him in terms of what he did every morning, which was pray and think of the people he needed to pray for and write to those people,” the real-life Junod can be heard saying in the preview.

Another scene in the trailer shows Rogers in a moment of quiet reflection while sitting in a restaurant filled with people.

“Just take a minute and think about all the people who loved us into being. Just one minute of silence,” Rogers said in the movie, which is a moment the film’s director Marielle Heller refers to as “one of the more important scenes in the movie.”

At another point in the trailer, Rogers is seen kneeling at his bedside reading the Bible.

“The truth is, he lived what he preached. He had a message of kindness and of being present and a mission of listening, and he did it every day,” Heller said of Rogers. “Our movie shows you his mission in action.”

Christian Movies Are Rare In Hollywood

It’s incredibly rare that a major Hollywood film revolves around Christianity to this degree. We applaud both Heller and Hanks for getting this movie made. Let’s hope that liberals do not try to destroy the film once they find out how Christian it really is.

A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood comes to US theaters on November 22, 2019. Right in the heart of awards season. Could Tom Hanks portrayal of the iconic Fred Rogers win him a nomination? We’ll just have to wait and see.
