The Mister Rogers biopic “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood” starring Tom Hanks as the beloved American icon appears to be on target to become the favorite movie of the year. The newly released trailer was met with seemingly unanimous adoration.
In an era seething with so much negativity, people are clamoring for just the sort of pick-me-up Mister Rogers is known to deliver. Throwing in Tom Hanks, one of the most beloved actors of recent years, has added to the charm and praise from people across social media.
Why America Needs Mister Rogers Now
The trailer highlights the caring nature of Mister Rogers not only towards children but also towards adults. Lloyd Vogel from Esquire is shown interviewing the children’s television hero for an interview, but the caring and lovable Rogers envisions what pains the journalist and causes his cynicism. Much like many of us experienced growing up watching Mister Rogers Neighborhood, this journalistic journey ends up being a healing one for Vogel.
It’s rare for something biographical out of Hollywood to be met with such resounding applause, but Mister Rogers is the epitome of personal connection. His on-screen character helped comfort and guide millions of children over several generations. Rogers’ approach to healing and caring for others is just the medicine many feel is needed amidst the divisive mudslinging and backstabbing in the news.
Twitter is typically a cesspool of negativity, but people joined together to celebrate their childhood hero. Fred Rogers was even compared to the wholesomeness of Chick-fil-A.
