Georges St-Pierre Believes Nick Diaz Will “Hate” Him “Until The Day I Die”

Often in MMA, when two fighters and rivals finally battle they squash any beef they had. If that doesn’t happen, typically any ill will dissipates over time. But, according to Georges St-Pierre, he believes Nick Diaz still hates him, and that his old foe will continue to do so….

The GSP – Diaz rivalry

Seven years ago or so, the GSP – Diaz rivalry was one of the biggest, most talked about in the sport. Diaz wasn’t shy about slamming or calling out the then welterweight champ, and St-Pierre didn’t care for it. So much so, St-Pierre told the UFC he wanted to face the outspoken fighter, even though Diaz had lost to Carlos Condit in 2012.

Well, before GSP  and Diaz were set to fight in March, 2013, Diaz accused St-Pierre of using performance enhancing drugs. He also alleged that the Quebec Commission was biased towards St-Pierre.

Since UFC 158

Immediately after St-Pierre worked his way to a decision win over Diaz at UFC 158, the Canadian star made it clear he was leaving the rivalry in the past. How about Diaz? Well, not so much. Diaz certainly hasn’t been going out of his way to trash GSP publicly in recent years. But, the fighter has still questioned how Quebec officials handled GSP prior to UFC 158 and during his weigh-in for the fight.

Well, recently St-Pierre spoke with Chael Sonnen. While discussing his relationship with Diaz, the legend said this (quote via MMA Junkie):

“I think this guy is going to hate me until the day I die,” St- Pierre said with a laugh. “I know he doesn’t like me, and he look to get me all the time. But, man, I generally like the guy. I’m telling you the truth. If I would see him in a situation of trouble, and I would be the only person that could help him, I would go help him, and I don’t think it would be the other way around.”

It would be interesting to see Diaz’s take on this. Would he acknowledge he hates St-Pierre at this juncture? Probably not. But, you never know. Sonnen also asked GSP about the possibility of fighting Diaz one more time, but, as he’s done in the past, St-Pierre said he’s not interested:

“It’s been done and not only that, even if it would have been done and it would be some sort of reward in terms of legacy or anything like that, there’s nothing good that can come out of it,” St-Pierre said. “Even if I win, I think the odds will favor me; people will make me the favorite for the fight. They will expect me to win, and if I lose it will be a complete disaster. I don’t want to put myself through another training camp, make all those sacrifices in terms of a three-month training camp for that type of fight. It’s not interesting. It’s not worth it for me.”

Yup. By all indications, St-Pierre’s storied career has come to a close. Recently GSP reported that he’s closed the book on fighting Khabib Nurmagomedov as well, and that he’s staying retired.
