The bout hasn’t been officially announced yet, but it’s being reported that a heavyweight scrap between Derrick Lewis and Blagoy Ivanov is close to being finalized.

ESPN’s Brett Okamoto has been told by sources that the UFC is close to adding Lewis – Ivanov to its November 2nd card in New York City. UFC 244 will be hosted by Madison Square Garden.

Ivanov (18-2, 1 no-contest) is coming off back-to-back wins over Ben Rothwell and Tai Tuivasa, after dropping his UFC debut to Junior dos Santos.

Lewis (21-7, 1 no-contest), meanwhile, has dropped consecutive fights to dos Santos and champion Daniel Cormier. Prior to that, the heavy handed fighter had won three in a row.

So, if this fight does get signed, it should make for some fireworks. It’s also a big opportunity for Ivanov, as he’s currently ranked #10 and Lewis is #5.

A main event for UFC 244 has yet to be confirmed.
