The UFC went to Sacramento, CA, last night, with UFC on ESPN+13 giving us a card that was pretty “meh” at times. But one intriguing match-up had TUF winner Ryan Hall taking on Darren Elkins. If you’ll recall, Hall is the jiu-jitsu guy who is so good and unorthodox that every just about everyone fears going to the ground with him.

Elkins was no exception. So much so that Elkins paid zero attention to whatever Hall did on the feet. As a result, Hall rocked him with a spinning kick, dropped him with a couple punches, and threw the lamest spinning elbows with no regard for defense.

Ultimately, Hall took the decision based on how much he kicked Elkins’ butt standing. And his striking sucks!

I guarantee that a million tae kwon do stylists have watched (or will watch) that fight and now mistakenly believe they’re ready for the UFC. The secret sauce of course is that for Hall’s terrible striking to work, his opponents have to be deathly afraid of grappling him. It’s doubtful even a handful of people will ever attain that level of jiu-jitsu prowess in our lifetime.
