Queen Elizabeth Preparing to Relinquish Her Powers, Royal Expert States

A royal expert has just come forward to say that Queen Elizabeth is preparing to hand over powers to her son Prince Charles.

Fox News reported that royal expert Phil Dampier said that the Queen will “give her powers” to Charles when she turns 95, which will happen in two years time. She just turned 93 in April. He said that after her 95th birthday, she will bring in the 1937 Regency Act to relinquish the “majority of duties” to her eldest son and heir to the throne.

What is the Regency Act?

This Act allows a reigning monarch to hand over their powers if they feel they can no longer perform their duties.

If the Queen were to do this, the plan would be for her to keep her royal title while Charles, 70, performed the majority of her duties. For the Act to actually go through, the Queen’s husband Prince Philip, 98, along with a Houses of Parliament spokesperson and a third senior person would need to provide evidence to support her request. Philip would also be named as the Guardian of the Queen.

“There is talk that when she reaches 95 in a couple of years she may slow down and possibly the Regency Act will be brought in,” Dampier said. “She will still be Queen but Prince Charles will, in fact, take over most of the duties. He is starting to take over a lot of the duties and doing the investitures.”

Many have noticed that Charles has been filling in for his mother on foreign trips, representing her as head of state on trips to places like Australia and New Zealand.

Queen Elizabeth’s reign

While it will be sad to see the Queen hand over her duties, she deserves the chance to enjoy some time in retirement just like anyone else does in their old age. When she turns 95, the Queen will have led her country for nearly eighty years: if anyone deserves some time for rest and relaxation, it’s her!
