Not surprisingly, Leon Edwards was quick to call for a scrap with Jorge Masvidal, following his big win at UFC San Antonio. But, as it stands right now, it seems clear Masvidal has other priorities.
Edwards faced Rafael dos Anjos in the card’s headliner, and he outscored the former lightweight champ throughout much of the fight and earned a unanimous decision win. Ever since Edwards’ backstage scuffle with Masvidal in March, the rising welterweight’s let it be known he wants to fight “Gamebred”. So, immediately after his win on Saturday, Edwards called for that to happen.
Well, that got back to Masvidal, as he proceeded to tweet out this:
Big difference between putting top ranked opponents to sleep and putting fans to sleep #bum #whoru

So I can be clear I was promised a title shot after I beat askren and I plan on cashing in on it. Don’t call me out no more until I get that belt #supernecessary

So, these comments from Masvidal shouldn’t come as a surprise. Due to his historically fast, KO win over Ben Askren earlier this month, many believe he is the front runner right now for a title shot. But, if Colby Covington goes out and impressively defeats Robbie Lawler on August 3rd, the UFC could decide “Chaos” should fight the champ Kamaru Usman. If that happens, might Masvidal reverse course and agree to fight Edwards?
