Dog the Bounty Hunter’s son, Leland Chapman, landed in the hospital last week just days before Beth Chapman‘s funeral in Colorado. Adding to the stress and grief of the week, it was questionable whether Leland would make it to the final service.
But, thankfully, Leland was discharged, albeit on crutches, in time for the memorial on Saturday for the “bonus mom” who meant so much to him.
Sitting alongside his dad and siblings in their first official interview, the family discussed Beth and how much they loved and miss her. And Leland explained exactly what happened that got him injured.
Despite having a recent knee injury, Leland was helping Dog track down a fugitive and in order to not put stress on his knee, opted to follow the suspect in a car. Once the fugitive was getting tired, Leland decided to get out of the car and follow on foot. And that’s when things went bad.
The man ran through a gate and slammed the door in Leland’s face.
“When I went to kick the gate, it kind of flexed and then it completely severed off my Achilles tendon. So it broke. Snapped it right in half. When I put my foot down, I kind of felt like it was asleep. I felt like I was walking on sand.”
Ouch!
The injury will reportedly put Leland out of commission, making him unable to help his dad for six weeks.
Despite his Achille’s tendon being on the mend, the 42-year-old still has surgery ahead of him to fix his ACL. In the meantime, Leland and his wife, Jamie, are taking time to spend with their family.
Hopefully, the whole family can start healing physically and emotionally.
