Sage Northcutt may have joined the UFC when he was only 19 year’s old, and he’s riding a three-fight winning streak as he gets set to make his ONE debut today. But, the man who will face Northcutt at “Enter the Dragon”, Cosmo Alexandre, doesn’t sound all that impressed with “Super”.

Northcutt entered free agency following his knockout win over Zak Ottow last July, and turned heads in MMA, by eventually signing with ONE. At today’s “Enter the Dragon” card in Singapore, the 23-year-old will make his ONE debut against the 37-year-old combat sport’s vet, Alexandre.

Well, recently Alexandre was asked to weigh-in on Northcutt as a fighter, and the Brazilian fighter said this (quote via MMA Junkie):

“I know that’s he’s young, strong, explosive and athletic,” Alexandre said. “He used to fight in the UFC, but I’ve fought everyone in Muay Thai. I fought Yodsanklai Fairtex twice. I fought the best. So this is just another fight. There’s nothing special here. I simply don’t want to lose.

“I’m training to win, regardless of my opponent. I haven’t fought MMA in some time, but I’m not too concerned.”

“…I’m looking forward to challenging myself by facing this young fighter. One more time I’ll be fighting on MMA turf. But no MMA fighter has ever came over to Muay Thai to face me. Funny how that is.”

How about that? Now, if you don’t follow combat sports intently, and are only aware of Alexandre’s MMA record (7-1), you might think this sounds a bit cocky. But, when you consider that Alexandre has also fought in 89 kickboxing bouts (69-19-1), and that he’s faced galaxy class strikers like he noted, you can probably understand why he may not be too intimidated by Northcutt.

Does this mean Northcutt can’t win today? No. Of course not. But, ONE definitely didn’t serve up a can for Northcutt to face in his promotional debut.

“Enter the Dragon” will feature lightweight champ Shinya Aoki taking on Christian Lee in the main event. The card will be streamed live on YouTube and on the ONE mobile app (depending on your location).
