TLC’s Amy Roloff opened up about her divorce from her husband, Matt Roloff, of nearly 30 years now that three years have almost passed since their separation. The “Little People Big World” star said she believes Matt was already romantically involved with his girlfriend Caryn Chandler before the couple had officially split and says that relationship got in the way of their marriage.

“I think when you start looking before you’re separated in marriage, that is hard,” Amy said, speaking generally next to her longtime friend, Lisa Dixon. “When you become involved or much more than just a friend, but you become more in a relationship than just say ‘Hey, hi friend, lets go out for coffees’ type of thing, I think that can be hard on the other person as well.”

Amy continued, saying that’s what happened from her perspective.

“We had someone that worked for us for a very long time, on our farm. And I believe — this is all from my perspective — that there was more than just friends going on. And I think that evolved to a point where that got in the way of our marriage as well.”

Ending a relationship — particularly one that spans decades — is hard enough, but when one person in a relationship has already moved on before the other the emotional pain can be compounded, which is exactly what Amy says she went through.

And Amy’s hurt didn’t come off very well at times on screen, either, she says.

“I think that’s what hurt,” Amy admitted. “And, unfortunately, may have — through an edited show — caused me to be a little bitter, may have come across as me being a little more angry.”

“I’ll be honest,” she continued. “I’ll be frank, it was tough.”

On a positive note, Amy Roloff also found a new partner in the years since the divorce. Her relationship with Chris Marek and the years of perspective and adjustment make Amy seem like the more stable partner as rumors that Matt and Caryn have broken up have been reported. Amy took the time to adjust to being single before jumping into a new relationship and it appears to be paying off.
