He may be one of the best lightweights to never fight for the actual belt (screw that interim nonsense), but there are a lot of unanswered questions when it comes to Tony Ferguson. Actually, there’s one question: Is the dude crazy?

This is a question worth pondering for two reasons. First, he’s fighting Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone at UFC 238, which should be a great fight. Second, he’s had some, er, issues as of late. In fact, his legal issues force us to wonder just how viable he’d be if he were to ever become champ. Because the last thing the UFC would ever want would be to have a champ stripped of his belt because he got arrested for beating his wife. Or worse.

Really, it sucks that this is even something we have to consider. Because aside from never being able to fight Khabib Nurmagomedov, despite the fight being made about a million times, he’s really good at fighting. Remember this gem?

I hope that whatever issues have been plaguing Ferguson are resolved. I hope that when it comes time to fight Cowboy, Ferguson has his head on straight. It of course speaks volumes that the UFC isn’t making that match-up a main event or co-main event (because maybe the UFC isn’t even 100% sure about relying on Ferguson). But I hope everything works out.

This is one game of Crazy Fighter Roulette I hope we – and Ferguson – win.
