Meghan Markle Set to Break Another Royal Tradition by Hiring an American Nanny

Meghan Markle is reportedly setting another royal tradition alight as she begins the process of looking for a nanny for her and Prince Harry’s soon-to-arrive bundle of joy. The royal family — including Prince William and Kate Middleton — have typically chosen British Norland nannies to take care of their young offspring, but the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are said to be looking for an American and possibly male nanny to look after their new baby.

“Meghan was clear in telling recruiters she favors an American over a Brit and wants them to feel part of the family rather than a uniformed member of staff,” one source has said. “That is important to her, she’s never hidden the fact she is fiercely proud of her American roots.”

There’s room for being proud of one’s American roots and then there’s marrying into the royal family of another country and basically snubbing their traditions at every turn. Much of Meghan’s issues since marrying Prince Harry seem to be wrapped up in this fundamental issue.

“They are keen to explore the ­possibility of a male nanny,” the source continued. Very few men have only recently attended the vaunted Bath college of Norland nannies, with the first two graduating in 2018.

Certainly, the care of infants as a more shared role for men and women is more common now than in the past, but seeing as Prince Harry and Meghan are a rarified level of “woke” royalty, it seems odd they would choose to hire a man over a woman. At least Meghan, 37, would ostensibly not need to worry over Prince Harry, 34, taking an interest in a male nanny, anyway.

Hopefully, Meghan and Prince Harry are focusing on the most important trait of looking for someone to help care for their first child, that of being a nurturing and skilled nanny. Whether they find that person, male or female, or from home or abroad, should be irrelevant.
