A royal insider is saying that Meghan Markle will not be meeting with President Donald Trump when he visits the United Kingdom in June because she sees her maternity leave as a “convenient” excuse to snub him.

Daily Mail reported that President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump will be guests of the Queen for three days starting on June 3, and while they will meet with many senior royals, expert Duncan Larcombe says that Meghan will not be one of them.

“I’m told that there are no plans for Meghan to meet President Trump,” Larcombe said. “Not as a snub because – how shall we say – it’s a quite convenient period of maternity leave so she won’t be working. The fact she’s on maternity leave obviously gives her an excuse.”

Meghan was outspoken about her disdain for Trump during her time as a member of the Hollywood A-list scene. In the months before the 2016 election, she spoke out to blast Trump during an interview with Larry Wilmore.

“Yes, of course, Trump is divisive, think about female voters alone, right? I think it was in 2012 the Republican Party lost the female vote by 12 points; that is a huge number and with as misogynistic as Trump is, and so vocal about it, that is a huge chunk of it,” Meghan said in the 2016 interview. “You’re not just voting for a woman if it’s Hillary because she’s a woman, but certainly because Trump has made it easy to see that you don’t really want that kind of world that he’s painting.”

Meghan is set to give birth any day now, so her baby will be around a month-old when Trump visits. While nobody can blame her for continuing to take time off when her baby is still that young, one can’t help but think that Meghan would not have let this stop her from meeting with the president of her home nation if her beloved Barack Obama was still in office. Meghan’s past history of bashing Trump combined with the fact that she has continued to express liberal views, even as a royal, lends credence to the claims that she really does see her pregnancy as a “convenient” excuse to snub the president.

While Meghan has a valid excuse this time, she likely won’t have one the next time Trump pays a visit to the U.K. By then, Meghan will hopefully have realized the importance of remaining politically neutral as a member of the British royal family. In the future, she needs to put her own leftwing politics aside and treat President Trump with the respect that he deserves.
