Matt Serra Tears Into T.J. Dillashaw, Following Two Year Ban For EPO Use

T.J. Dillashaw has taken plenty of verbal shots, since it was announced he tested positive for EPO and has been suspended for two years.  Well, as the headline above notes, Matt Serra didn’t hold back when he was asked for his take on the situation.

Recently Dillashaw announced he was vacating the bantamweight title, as a result of what he called an “adverse finding” in his drug test. Then it was announced the star had been suspended for one year by the New York Commission, before, more recently, USADA reported it had handed Dillashaw a two year ban. The suspension is due to a positive test for EPO.

Well, plenty of folks in the MMA world have been piling on Dillashaw since news of the EPO use broke. During the latest episode of the UFC’s “Unfiltered” podcast, Serra had this to say about the latest development (quotes via MMA Junkie):

“It’s downright disgusting. What legacy? What (expletive) legacy? We don’t know what he could have done if the playing field was even – on a level playing field,” Serra said.

“I really feel for Cody. I do – because in that first fight, in the first one, he hurt (Dillashaw), too. He almost took him out. Maybe that slight edge was because he’s a (expletive) cheater. I never had a problem with that kid, and I always got along with (coach) Duane (Ludwig). But this is just foul.

“…So (expletive) you, T.J. This is (expletive) bull(expletive). This is disgusting. I can’t say it enough. Everyone that got stopped by him should be furious and at the same time, look at yourself and go, ‘All right. Now it makes sense. Now it makes (expletive) sense (that I lost to him).’”

Now, it should be noted that no one currently knows for certain, if Dillashaw was using EPO long term. But, for some fans, this incident has been cause to write him off and what he’s accomplished, completely.

Whether you’re a member of that camp or not, there’s no denying that this is a massive, massive hit to Dillashaw’s career. By the time he’s ready to return again he’ll be a couple weeks shy of turning 35.

Dillashaw’s 2019 was already off to a bad start, as he was quickly taken out by flyweight champ Henry Cejudo in January. The failed drug tests were done in connection to the Brooklyn event.
