Dustin Poirier may have just defeated one of the greatest fighters on the planet in Max Holloway. But, the early betting lines for his expected bout with Khabib Nurmagomedov, are leaning heavily on the lightweight champ.
Poirier faced Holloway at UFC 236 on Saturday, and secured an interim lightweight title by scoring a decision win over the featherweight king. As a result, Poirier is expected to battle Nurmagomedov later this year.
Well, it hasn’t taken long for bookies to get some betting odds out on the planned contest. The early line has Nurmagomedov as the favorite with odds ranging from -265. Poirier, meanwhile, is the underdog at +225.
When you think about it, really, these odds shouldn’t come as too big of a surprise. Poirier has been on a fantastic run, and he did just defeat one of the best, P4P fighters in the game. But, Poirier hasn’t faced someone with Nurmagomedov’s wrestling and grappling pedigree. So that, coupled with the fact Khabib’s never lost, are likely behind the odds.
