There’s been plenty of talk recently about when and if Conor McGregor will fight again, and whether he’s still part of the SBG camp led by John Kavanagh. Well, recently the latter reportedly weighed-in on both of those questions on The Late, Late Show.
Ever since McGregor was tapped out by Khabib Nurmagomedov in October, there’s been extensive talk about who and when the former champ will fight next. Of course, more recently speculation regarding McGregor’s fighting future spiked when he announced he was done fighting (more recently, however, he said he will be back in the Octagon).
Well, during the aforementioned appearance, the star’s longtime coach was asked to comment on McGregor’s future. Kavanagh, reportedly said this (quote via MMA Fighting):
“I think there has been a resurgence in his passion and his love and I think if the right contest comes along, something that’s very interesting to him, a good challenge, something that will get the crowd going…I’d be very surprised if he doesn’t fight again…as soon as…it could be even the summer,” Kavanagh said.
This is certainly in keeping with McGregor’s recent social media activities, as the “Notorious” one has been commenting a lot about his fights etc.
And what about Kavanagh’s role in McGregor’s career moving forward? Since the SBG coach has reported recently he hasn’t been speaking with McGregor that much (and in this interview he apparently said he went some time without seeing the star), some have wondered if McGregor might switch camps.
Well, Kavanagh was asked if he hopes to corner McGregor in his next bout, and he said “Very much so, I certainly hope so.”
So, we’ll see what happens. But, based off what McGregor has said in the past about his camp, his relationship with his coaches etc, it would be pretty shocking if he split ways with Kavanagh. Don’t be surprised, however, if McGregor brings in some additional sparring partners and or coaches.
