Six months after his loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov, Conor McGregor is saying he went into the contest with a broken foot.

McGregor faced the lightweight champ at UFC 229, October, and ended up losing via fourth round, submission. Recently McGregor was asked about why he didn’t use his typical, in-and-out, light on his feet approach against Khabib. The former lightweight and featherweight champ said the following:

I broke my foot 3 weeks out from the bout.
I still marched forward however, and also landed the final blows of the night.
On his blood brother.
I am happy with how the contest went and the lessons learned.
In my fighting and more importantly my preparation.
Time will reveal all.

So, this is pretty interesting news. McGregor was more flat-footed in the bout than usual, and he didn’t fire many kicks. But, most observers likely thought this was part of an effort to defend Khabib’s takedowns.

Now, does any of this mean that Khabib wouldn’t have won the fight if Conor was completely healthy? No. But, you do have to wonder if the fight would have played out somewhat differently.

The Nurmagomedov fight aside, McGregor also said this, when asked about his next fight.

In talks, in thoughts, and always and forever,
In training!

Here’s hoping we see the polarizing fighter back in the cage sooner than later.
