Ben Askren remained undefeated tonight at UFC 235, but the decorated wrestler’s victory was marred in controversy.

Askren came out and immediately shot in, but Lawler ended up slamming “Funky” to the mat. From there, Lawler battered Askren with shots from above, which bloodied the former Bellator and ONE  champ.

Askren worked his way out of trouble and ended up taking Lawler down. As the latter tried to get up, Askren sunk in a bulldog choke on the rugged welterweight. Lawler’s arm momentarily appeared to go limp, and referee Herb Dean stopped the fight, but “Ruthless” was clearly conscious as he proceeded to protest the stoppage.
