Queen Elizabeth Stops Meghan and Harry from Getting Political

Queen Elizabeth has managed to keep the British royal family around for years by remaining politically neutral at all times. Now, she’s stepping in to make sure that the next generation of royals does the same thing.

Daily Mail reported that last week, Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle announced plans of creating their own household that would be “entirely independent” of Buckingham Palace when they soon move from Kensington Palace to Frogmore House. The Queen, however, was not having any of it, as an insider revealed that she and her son Prince Charles have already shut this plan down.

“They wanted their household to be entirely independent of Buckingham Palace, but were told ‘no,'” the source said. There is an institutional structure that doesn’t allow that kind of independence. The feeling is that it’s good to have the Sussexes under the jurisdiction of Buckingham Palace, so they can’t just go off and do their own thing.”

While the Queen has agreed for Harry and Meghan to have their own household, she has granted permission for it only to be based out of Buckingham Palace, which means that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will not have the “total royal freedom” that they had been hoping for.

I think that the Queen is making the right move here. It’s no secret that Meghan has had a difficult time transitioning from an outspoken Hollywood liberal to a politically neutral royal figure. She has already had a few slip-ups in which she slipped and expressed some leftwing political views, and were she given “total freedom” from the rest of the royal family, it’s likely that she would use this to become increasingly vocally liberal.

The British royal family is like one big team, and what one royal does reflects on the rest of them as a whole. If Harry and Meghan were to start getting politically liberal in public, the entire royal family would quickly get the reputation of being leftwing, which would alienate half of their supporters.

As Royals, Harry and Meghan have the opportunity to support numerous apolitical causes and change countless lives. While Meghan likely resents that she can no longer publicly express the liberal views that are so popular in Hollywood, she should be thankful that she is being given a lifetime of extravagance as a royal. All she has to do in return is keep her mouth shut when it comes to politics. I don’t know about you, but I would take the deal that Meghan is getting in a heartbeat!
