As is often the case on the internet, one simple comment can become bigger than intended and become a meme. That’s what happened to “The View“‘s Meghan McCain when she reacted online to a woman who attended her intimate nuptials to The Federalist’s Ben Domenech as a longtime friend of the groom and a contributor to his conservative web magazine.

“Can someone explain to me the purpose of The View?” Denise McCallister began in a tweet attached to an article featuring a photo of Meghan McCain. “It seems to me to be a roundtable of delusional mental midgets ricocheting ignorance and lack of emotional regulation.”

Meghan McCain, who often shares her personal appreciation for her cohosts despite their differences addressed her past wedding attendee with a simple reply.

“You were at my wedding Denise…” she tweeted back.

McCain married Domenech at a small ceremony in Arizona months before her father Sen. John McCain passed away.

Meghan’s response was so loaded with the implication of what being at someone’s wedding means and the special kind of betrayal that’s attached when they later badmouth the person — especially in public — that the internet couldn’t help but take notice.

McCallister tries to walk back her comment.

For her part, McCallister attempted to clarify her comment was directed at McCain’s cohosts.

“I think the photo on the story made it look like this was personally directed at you, Meghan,” McCallister replied. “My comment was directed at The View and the mental midgets who surround you. I don’t even know how you do it daily and my hat is off to you for standing strong in the midst of crazy.”

How does that make it better for Meghan McCain who she is frequently effusive on social media in her love of her cohosts, including Whoopi Goldberg and even Joy Behar?

McCain took the meme-ification of her response with good humor and later tweeted out her approval.

“‘You were at my wedding, Denise…’ can be everyone’s clap back to everyone, everywhere, forever. My gift to the internet. Thank you for the support,” Meghan tweeted.

Hopefully, the incident was brushed aside between the couple and McCallister for the sake of personal and professional harmony.
