Kenny Omega On What He Wanted From WWE, Goldust Denies Report

– Earlier in the year, Kenny Omega’s name was being tossed around after declaring his intention to leave New Japan Pro Wrestling when his contract expired. The two promotions making a run for Omega were WWE and All Elie Wrestling (AEW). In the end, Omega signed with AEW. Now, he is opening up about not joining the WWE.

“In just wasn’t for me,” said Omega during an interview with TSN’s Dan and Jay. “I learned a lot of things that helped me take the next step after I left WWE. I had always felt when I had full creative control of my own person and own ideas that I could be the true me and show my full potential. I was actually considering going there earlier in the year, but AEW just seemed right for me. I always get really excited at the idea of having full creative control and just doing new things. To me that’s exciting as a performer. I felt that was probably what was best for me, as of right now.”

Not only is Omega with AEW, but the serves as their Executive Vice President. He is set to battle Chris Jericho at Double or Nothing on May 25 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena. It will be a rematch from their NJPW Wrestle Kingdom match, which saw Omega get the victory.

– Speaking of AEW, there were reports circulating yesterday that the contract of WWE’s Goldust (real name Dustin Rhodes) had expired and he was heading to the upstart promotion. Despite changing his social media accounts to no longer reflect WWE, Goldust denied the news.

The is some belief that Goldust is done with WWE or will be finishing up in May. There remains speculation that Double or Nothing will see Goldust vs. his younger brother Cody Rhodes. That match between brothers has been slightly teased on YouTube videos to hype Double or Nothing. As of now, Cody has no opponent for AEW’s first show.
