John Phillips gave no second thoughts to cancelling his bout at UFC Fight Night 147 vs. Jack Marshman after finding out Marshman would be unable to make weight.
Phillips will receive a portion of Marshman’s fight purse, but as far as he’s concerned, that’s just “a bonus.”
John Kavanagh, Phillips’ coach, shared a message between the two after hearing news of the weigh-in issue.
“Jack gonna miss by 2lbs. You get 20% his purse. Good with that?” Phillips was asked. To which he responded, “Yes sir I don’t care if he comes in at heavyweight it will be the same result he’s going to sleep! The 20% is a bonus.”
