Carol Burnett’s Bestselling Memoir to Be Turned Into Movie

The legendary actress and comedian Carol Burnett just got some very good news when she learned that her best-selling memoir “Carrie and Me: A Mother-Daughter Love Story” is being turned into a major motion picture!

Fox News reported that the movie is being made at Focus Features, where it will be produced by Burnett along with Tina Fey, Eric Gurian, and Steven Rogers. The sibling duo of Ian and Eshom Nelms, best known for the movie Small Town Crime, will be writing the film’s script.

As Burnett’s memoir did, the movie will tell the story of the ups and downs of the relationship she had with her late daughter Carrie Hamilton, who tragically passed away of lung cancer in 2002 at the age of 38. Carrie, who was an actress herself, struggled with drug addiction as a teenager before maintaining years of sobriety as an adult.

“She got sober when she was 17, I put her in a third rehab place, and oh my God, she hated me,” Burnett once said of Carrie. “I came to the conclusion that I had to love her enough to let her hate me. She got sober and we started bonding. We wound up working together, writing a play together. We worked together in three shows.

Burnett, 85, has also been open about the profound grief she felt after Carrie’s death.

“You don’t get over it, but you cope, what else can you do?” she said. “When Carrie died, I didn’t want to get out of bed for a while, but I had a play to finish that we started that Hal Prince was going to direct. I owed it to Carrie, and I owed it to Hal Prince.”

Carol Burnett is a living legend and an incredible woman, and we can’t wait to get new insight into who she is with this new movie. Hopefully, the film is well made and does this amazing woman justice!

James Conrad

James Conrad’s passion for politics is only overshadowed by his longstanding interest in Hollywood. His unique perspective as a gay conservative fuels him to challenge celebrity views and those who think they have a right to tell anyone how to think or vote. James proudly wields his minority point of view to combat identity politics and cut through his typecast. Fun fact: James’ guilty pleasure is the British royal family.
