Kelsey Grammer Speaks Out to Defend Roseanne Barr

Kelsey Grammer of “Frasier” fame spoke out this past week to defend disgraced comedic actress Roseanne Barr and say that she deserves to be forgiven for the controversial tweet that got her fired from ABC this past year.

Barr was fired within hours of posting her offensive tweet about Barack Obama advisor Valerie Jarrett by ABC Entertainment President Channing Dungey, a personal friend of Obama who called the tweet  “abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values.” The liberal world of Hollywood immediately jumped on board with this and swiftly blacklisted Barr, with virtually nobody speaking out to defend her lest their own careers be ruined as well. That’s why it came as a happy surprise when Grammer defended her this week.

“I think people should be forgiven for their sins. Our life is so challenging. How do you ever make amends?” Grammer said of what happened, according to The Epoch Times. He went on to criticize the “Roseanne” spinoff “The Connors,” saying that it is just not the same without Barr.

“I actually really liked “Roseanne” when it was back with Roseanne [Barr]. I’m not so crazy about The Connors,” Grammer said. “I don’t mean to be an [expletive] about it, but it just seems like the fundamental piece is missing, however that all went.”

ABC executives regret firing Barr

Even ABC executives have admitted in recent months that firing Barr was a mistake.

“We didn’t think it through properly. What Roseanne did was wrong but we shouldn’t have rushed to fire her. It was almost a knee-jerk reaction by Ben [Sherwood] and Channing [Dungey] who should have launched an investigation,” one unnamed executive said afterwards.

All these months later, the injustice of what happened to Barr is apparent now more than ever. Earlier today, Fox issued a statement saying that Jussie Smollett “is not being written out of the show” “Empire” despite the fact that it has become evident that he lied about being a victim of a hate crime perpetrated by Donald Trump supporters. This has made it clear that when a conservative like Barr makes a mistake, there are no second chances, and she is immediately blacklisted. However, when a liberal like Smollett slips up, Hollywood stands by him.

We applaud Grammer for putting his own career at risk to defend Barr, and we hope that more stars choose to do so in the future. If anyone deserves a second chance, it’s Roseanne Barr.

James Conrad

James Conrad’s passion for politics is only overshadowed by his longstanding interest in Hollywood. His unique perspective as a gay conservative fuels him to challenge celebrity views and those who think they have a right to tell anyone how to think or vote. James proudly wields his minority point of view to combat identity politics and cut through his typecast. Fun fact: James’ guilty pleasure is the British royal family.
