John Mellencamp ‘Takes a Knee’ During Concert in Solidarity With Kaepernick

While performing at a concert in New York City on Monday night, John Mellencamp “took a knee,” showing his fans where he stands on Colin Kaepernick’s race-baiting “take a knee” protests.

Fox News reported that during a concert at the Beacon Theater, Mellencamp took a knee at the end of his song “Easy Target,” which is a commentary on our society and the poor.

“Well, let the poor be damned, and the easy targets too,” state the lyrics of the song. “All are created equal, equally beneath me and you.”

Mellencamp rose to fame in the 1980s and 1990s with numerous hit songs that painted the United States in a negative light. The 67-year-old first got involved with the “take a knee” protests last year when he took a knee during a performance on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.”

“I’ve never planned anything in my life,” Mellencamp said afterwards. “Taking a knee felt like nothing. At the time, it felt like part of the performance. After the fact, I hope it made some kind of difference.”

Kaepernick disrespects American flag

Kaepernick started these protests back in 2016 when he began taking a knee during the national anthem before his football games as a member of the San Francisco 49ers. Though he said he was taking a knee to protest against racial inequality in the United States, many saw the move as a huge sign of disrespect to our flag and the veterans who have fought for it.

Given Mellencamp’s decades-long history of performing anti-American songs, it should come as no surprise that he has hopped on the “take a knee” bandwagon. Clearly, he’s hoping that joining these protests will make him relevant again in the eyes of young people, but we doubt that this will work out for him. Instead of standing out with this move, Mellencamp is just blending in with the other leftwing sheep of the entertainment world.

James Conrad

James Conrad’s passion for politics is only overshadowed by his longstanding interest in Hollywood. His unique perspective as a gay conservative fuels him to challenge celebrity views and those who think they have a right to tell anyone how to think or vote. James proudly wields his minority point of view to combat identity politics and cut through his typecast. Fun fact: James’ guilty pleasure is the British royal family.
