Dennis Bermudez decided there was no better time than the present to exit MMA.

Bermudez scored a decision victory over Te Edwards Saturday night at UFC Fight Night 143, announcing his retirement inside the Octagon afterwards. The bout was part of the prelims from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

The win snapped a four-fight losing streak for Bermudez, who went 17-9 overall in his career. He earned five fight-night bonuses, including a pair of “Fight of the Night” checks.

Bermudez reached the finals on The Ultimate Fighter in 2011, falling to Diego Brandao. He fought for the UFC over the next eight years, earning wins over Pablo Garza, Clay Guida and current UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway.
