All Elite Flying Solo? + Impact Homecoming Results

-In what is easily the biggest wrestling news of 2019 so far, we have a new promotion formed. All Elite Wrestling is being driven by Cody Rhodes and friends. Rhodes and others have extensive experience working with both New Japan Pro Wrestling as well as Ring Of Honor. Leading up to the announcement of the promotion, the assumption was that AEW would be able to work on shows with each of the other promotions.

Now, Dave Meltzer from Wrestling Observer has more on that. Representatives from AEW met with NJPW following this weekend’s Wrestling Kingdom show. The understanding is that the meeting did not go as AEW had expected it to, and that as of now, NJPW will not be working with AEW on any shows.

This could be a big blow to both NJPW and AEW. For All Elite, partnering with New Japan (and ROH) would have allowed them to leverage other talents not contracted directly with AEW. For New Japan, it means they’ve lost The Elite. Every performer associated with All Elite Wrestling lost their matches on Saturday, which has to be presumed to be tied to the AEW decision.

While the news isn’t the best for All Elite, it’s likely just a speed bump in the grand scheme of things. The promotion will still attract talent. Also starting with The Elite isn’t a bad spot to be in.

-In case you missed it, IMPACT Wrestling held a PPV over the weekend. Here are some video highlights from Homecoming. Johnny Impact retained his championship. Taya Valkyrie became Knockouts Champion. Former WWE Cruiserweight Rich Swann claimed the X Division belt and the tag champions remain unchanged.
