Kate Gosselin, who made her name off her kids like so many on The Learning Channel, lost custody of one of her sextuplets on Dec. 4 when she and her lawyer failed to show up for a scheduled court hearing. Sole custody of her son, Collin, 14, was handed over to her ex-husband, Jon.
Who do the Gosselin children live with?
Reasons for action being taken in regards to Collin and not the other four minor children — the older twins, Mady and Cara, are now 18; 14-year-old sister, Hanna, has lived with Jon for the past year — stem over his reported behavioral problems. In 2016, it was reported he would be going to an inpatient facility due to the issue.
With Collin expected to complete his treatment prior to Christmas, postponing the custody hearing as Kate wanted would’ve meant Collin would be returned to her parental supervision where he had so many problems before.
A friend of Jon Gosselin said the facility where Collin was staying was a great fit for him and far better than Kate’s handling of their troubled son. “Collin is very intelligent. He was always questioning Kate and talking back. Kate doesn’t like that. They work closely with Jon and really do care about Collin,” the source divulged.
The fact that Kate didn’t show up could indicate that maybe Kate realizes her home and parenting style may not be what’s best for their son. No reason was given for why neither Kate nor her lawyer attended the hearing.

When are the Gosselins are headed back to court?
In the meantime, it looks as though Jon also filed a complaint that Kate had prevented him from seeing all eight of his children at one time for several years back in 2016. Collin, as well as 14-year-old Hanna, are preparing for a happy and as-normal-as-possible Christmas with their father.
In a photo posted on Jon’s Instagram account, he wrote, “Found our tree…let the holidays begin!!!!”
Hopefully, the 14-year-old can resume a relatively normal high school experience with his dad and Hanna. Can’t think of a better Christmas gift!
